For Freedoms booth at Expo Chicago 2022, featuring four Chicago-based artists whose practices address and visualize the values of abolition.

We construct borders, walls, barriers, bars to separate ourselves from one another. When we cut off a piece of the world, we cut off a piece of ourselves.

Justice is a process, not a point. Justice requires interaction, it demands that we see ourselves as parts of a whole and each other as parts of us. Justice embraces multitudes and sees what we cannot. Justice is endless, spiraling, morphing as understanding grows.

Abolition asks that we acknowledge our interconnectedness. It is not just a doing away with existing oppressive structures; it is a raising up of systems of support. Across history, community, experience, and perspective, abolition is an invitation to join together.
